IMPACTING COMMUNITIES IN PARTNERSHIP

The Severn Project CIC  sowing the seeds of hope.

The Severn Project is an innovative social re-integration initiative that was set up in 2010 in order to assist substance misusing individuals who have chosen an abstinent, sustainable and fulfilling lifestyle.

We differ from other drug and alcohol programmes in that our programme is permanent with clients initially being engaged to deal with their current issues but – through the application of a therapeutic/employment programme and  working with our partner organisations – they can ultimately become employed and  able to offer support in their turn to others in need.

In order for the Project to be sustainable we are initiating a number of business starts over the next year.  These businesses will feed revenue into a central fund that will provide therapeutic and employment support largely independent from central government.

In the Severn Project we recognise our clients as assets not as commodities – and by planning long term and permanent solutions to a series of  old and enduring social issues we gain the trust of these disillusioned, disenfranchised and frankly disappointed individuals.

The benefits of this programme are multi faceted and include abstinence, improved health, development of potential, employment, training and education, helping to break the intergenerational dependency upon both benefits and substances – it is sadly quite clear that these two issues so often go hand in hand.

According to UK Drug Policy Commission, the Government spends £856,000 per substance misuse during his/her lifetime. Government also estimates 400,000 problematic drug users.  Indicative cost to taxpayer is an astounding £350,000,000,000. Over half the UK prison population is made up of heroin and crack users convicted of property crimes to support their habits.
